South Africans experience frequent power outages, commonly known as “loadshedding”. These are planned outages intended to reduce the overall load on South Africa’s power stations. All South Africans are affected by loadshedding, citizens and businesses alike. It is any company’s intention to reduce downtime experienced on the factory floor. But what about the common household? Is there a cost-benefit to installing backup power? In this paper we will define your own personal backup requirements and then calculate which hardware is most suitable to accommodate them.
